Your first rung: Introduction to Futsal and the laws guide

Your futsal education starts with two short, free online courses from England Football. The Introduction to Futsal is a CPD module of about 30–60 minutes that shows you what futsal is and how to get a team started. Beside it sits the Guide to the Futsal Laws of the Game, a free laws course of about 1 hour 40 minutes, open to anyone in the sport: coaches, referees and volunteers.

  • Entry: a FA Number (FAN), a minimum age of 16, and no futsal experience at all.
  • Cost and format: both free, both online and self-paced.
  • The Introduction's three sections: an overview of futsal (what it is and why it needs skilful players); getting started with your team (where to play and what training looks like); helping your players (team messages and core technical skills).
  • The laws guide's four modules: Before the match (20 min, pitch inspection to coin toss); Signals and communication (15 min); Getting it right (40 min, fouls and sanctions); Managing starts and restarts (25 min).
  • Assessment: knowledge checks inside the modules. The laws guide issues a certificate on completion.

After this comes the National Futsal Course (two practical days) and then the UEFA Futsal B Diploma, the most advanced futsal licence in England. The old FA Futsal Level 1 and Level 2 awards have been discontinued.
